| Cromarty Arts Trust Exhibition by Caroline Bury Caroline Bury, Cromarty Arts Trust 2008 Student Residency Prize-winner is having an small exhibition of the work she has produced during her residency, in her Studio in Cromarty, on Friday. The Student Prize is awarded annually to a recent graduate of the Art Schools in Scotland, and has been running for the past three years. Caroline Graduated from Moray College, and has been spending her month-long residency painting some beautiful figurative work, inspired by a ceilidh she attended in the town, and using mixed media to produce some dramatic landscapes.

| New edition of Leabhar Mòr to be launched in Edinburgh An Leabhar Mòr, The Great Book of Gaelic, is a major contemporary artwork, a 21st century 'Book of Kells', that brings together the work of more than 200 visual artists, poets and calligraphers from Scotland and Ireland. After thrilling audiences around the world, promoting and raising the international profile of Gaelic through exhibitions and associated events, the book itself has become a collector's item and is in higher demand than ever. In response to this demand, Pròiseact nan Ealan - The Gaelic Arts Agency are delighted to announce the eagerly awaited launch of the second edition of The Great Book by MSP Mike Russell at the Scottish Book Trust, Edinburgh on 29th August.

| Highland art space opens with Concrete Now! exhibition. HICA, a new art-space located approximately 12 miles south of Inverness, opened on the 24th August with ‘Concrete Now!’ an exhibition of work by David Bellingham, Richard Couzins, Alec Finlay, Peter Suchin and Chris Tosic.

| The Singing Gynaecologist Plays Local Hall Hank Wangford and Reg Meuross are playing Croy Village hall next Saturday evening 23 August as part of their “No Hall too Small Tour”. Hank is a remarkable man. Having qualified as a doctor and worked as a gynaecologist, he took to Country and Western music through his association with rock and Country stars in the 1970s.  Danish Tattoo Boy. | Highland Print Studio "Original Print" Exhibition of Contemporary Hand Made Artists Work Original Print brings together a collection of hand-made prints that explore the diversity of techniques that come under the banner of printmaking. The exhibition includes screenprints, woodcuts, linocuts, etchings and lithographs by Highland-based artist printmakers and others. There are information panels on the main printmaking techniques and examples of tools and equipment used in the creation of original prints.

| Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop A Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop will be running for all interested parties on Monday 25 August 2008. The workshop runs from 6.30-9.30pm in Elgin High School, Elgin. Sports and Arts should provide a safe and fun environment for children and young people. Every week hundreds of thousands of youngsters happily and safely participate in the care of dedicated sports coaches. To ensure that good work continues in a safe environment, organisers, coaches and parents must be aware of child protection issues.

| One Giant Leap (Wee Stories and the National Theatre of Scotland). After their success earlier this year with The Emperor’s New Kilt (Winner, Best show for Children and Young People at the Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland 2008), Wee Stories and the National Theatre of Scotland have joined forces again to present ONE GIANT LEAP. This show is co-created and performed by Andy Cannon, Iain Johnstone and David Trouton.

| New Book by Local Writer – Paper Trails Local writer Mandy Haggith is celebrating the publication of her first non-fiction book, called Paper Trails: From Trees to Trash – The True Cost of Paper, by Virgin Books/Random House. The book was launched at Achins Bookshop, Inverkirkaig, at 7.30 on Tuesday 12 August. Mandy read and signed copies, and gave a slideshow of pictures from the global journey she undertook to research the book.

| More films for audiences in rural Scotland On Thursday 31 July 2008, Scottish Screen launched a new £300,000 Digital Projection Equipment Fund to help fit-out cinemas, multi-art spaces and other venues in rural and remote areas of Scotland with equipment to enable them to project films digitally.
