Writing
HI~Arts aims to provide writers with the kind of support and information that can make a real difference to their writing careers and/or to the project their nurturing.
We cover fiction, non-fiction, drama, screen & radio broadcast, poetry & writing for children in all formats, and we also work to promote the writers of the Highlands and Islands, and the written heritage of the region locally, nationally and internationally. We work in English, Gaelic & Scots.
Our services are free to use if you live in the Highlands and Islands area, defined by the area of operation of the enterprise agency HIE. Writers wishing to use our services must be a minimum 16 years of age, and not in full-time education.
Our work is funded by Creative Scotland and HIE.
The service is managed by HI~Arts’ Writing Development Co-ordinator, Peter Urpeth, who can be contacted by e-mail: peter@hi-arts.co.uk
Our work has both a creative industry focus and a creative focus and, when and where possible, as resources allow, we tailor what we do to meet your specific needs as a writer. We support, where appropriate, writers considering self-publishing and digital routes.
Our experience is that writers who engage with writing development services and / or with other writers, have a higher chance of achieving either publicaiton of their work or creative fulfillment through their work than those who work alone. But all writers are different, and work in different ways, and we aim to provide you with highly quality services and support however you work.
